As one of Britain’s main engineering centers, the city was heavily bombed in World War II. A second challenge was to occur in the 1980s when the steel industry went into sharp decline.
However, the city is bouncing back and quickly. The centre has been transformed by flagship architectural projects including the primary symbol of the Sheffield’s regeneration the Winter Gardens.
Swanky clubs and up-market galleries exist alongside business in the reinvigorated Cultural Industries Quarter, while warehouses have been done-up in the canal basin at Victoria Quays.
The Devonshire Quarter ranks as the trendiest shopping area, while excellent restaurant and bars have created a vibrant nightlife for the thousands of university students.
